Mercy Corps works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability to unleash the potential of people who can win against nearly impossible odds. Recognizing that sports can create positive change in the lives of young people, Mercy Corps has organized 29 sports-related projects in 20 countries in the last five years. We're teaching important lessons about teamwork, HIV prevention, leadership and responsibility while building self-esteem, trust in others and resiliency.
My involvement in Sport & Development
I've been working on the Sport for Change project at Mercy Corps since early 2007. With a generous grant from our corporate partner Nike, the project is currently funding pilot programs with a focus on conflict management and youth entrepreneurship. I also sit on the Nike review team, which reviews incoming applications for material aid as part of the Let Me Play initiative.
