International Platform on Sport And Development

Administered by the UNDP, the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme supports sustainable human development globally through the promotion of volunteerism. The organization mobilizes volunteers and advances both social and economic initiatives that facilitate the creation of more cohesive societies founded on trust and reciprocity between citizens.

As UNV believes that sport contributes to the health, education, and overall well-being of individuals everywhere, many of its initiatives promote sport as a way to overcome adversity and bring communities together. One example is in Antananarivo, Madagascar, where UNV works with community volunteers to promote sporting events aimed at curbing youth-initiated street violence.
