Sacrena Sporting Organization was created in the year 2000 by a group of 35 youths and aims to incorporate therapeutic sport components into development programmes. It is registered as a faith based organization with the Kenyan Ministry of Gender, Sports, Culture and Social Services from Kisumu District.
At Sacrena Sporting Organization, sport has been used as a way of breaking stigma and discrimination related to HIV/AIDS, and can also serve as a vehicle to pass on important health messages. It can also help address conflicts between the youths, especially in tense situations. Sacrena Sporting Organization also uses sport to handle peer pressure. Sport is also considered as an excellent tool to discover how to behave under pressure, or learn how to accept to win and to lose with dignity. Finally, one can say that Sacrena has strengthened linkages and partnerships with different stakeholders in the worldwide sports arena.
