Every day millions of people participate in sport as coaches, athletes, volunteers, referees and organisers. For many, this is a positive experience that develops social networks, confidence, skills and knowledge. However, to avoid that the experience turns negative for some, basic guiding principles need to be agreed upon and implemented.

This section has been designed as a gateway to child protection and safeguarding for everybody involved in the design and implementation of sport and development projects including coaches, managers, development professionals, policy makers, parents and children themselves. It aims to encourage everyone to do their part to keep sport safe.

To assist sport-based initiatives in reaching development goals, practical tools and sample documents have been collected and made available here. These are not designed to exhibit the pinnacle of child protection and safeguarding practice, but rather are offered as a starting point for the development of policies, practices and procedures to keep sport fun and children safe.
