A call for a 90-minute ceasefire

Scott lee, winner of the Most Courageous Use of Sport Award, proposed a 90-minute cease fire, throughout the world, to take place during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Influential figures from UNICEF, the UN, Middle East governing leaders, and overarching sporting networks such as streetfootballworld and the International Platform on Sport and Development were in the room and are now held to address this extremely difficult challenge.
The UN, however, suggested interest in helping to make this happen – come 2010 in South Africa, perhaps there truly could be a worldwide cease-fire, which could truly demonstrate the power that sport has to shift global perspective even on such serious issues as war.

Scott may very well inspire the world with his simple yet powerful message. I look forward to joining him in support of this mission and look to see that perhaps it will inspire the grass roots to pressure their governments and organizations to extend the cease fire in all needless armed conflict.

This proposal is one challenged to personal response and responsibility. It is not just about treaties and govt. support but also extended to what each and everyone of us can do on an individual level to help create a world of NON-Violence for those 90min.
