The project is aimed at young people 8-18 years and will see them teaming up with local professional musicians.
The two areas of Sheffield targeted are Parson Cross & Sharrow. Both areas markedly different in their cultural and racial make-up. Part of the project is to promote the awareness of individual differences and breaking down barriers which exist between cultures. To do this the youth will literally cross to the other side of their city to gain some insight into each others lives.
Asked about the initiative Project manager Michael Wainwright (better known as Moony) said:
“But it’s not just about the music. It’s about encouraging young people to think about issues like community and diversity and understanding and appreciating both their differences and similarities.”
The project runs from October to December 2009.
