Sport and Economic Development
Economists have not yet fully investigated the international trade in sports goods and the mechanisms that regulate the industry. Data does exist on the import and export of sporting goods in developed countries but little can be said for developing countries. There is a dearth of microeconomic studies about transfers operated within transnational corporations (TNCs).
A relatively small amount of research has delved into the informal and unregulated labour market for young talented sports athletes from developing countries but this needs to be explored further to ascertain the extent to which athletes from developing countries have the same rights as those from developed countries.
