On November 2nd APAID received a letter of support from Mr Wilfried Lemke expressing his support for the initiatives undertaken by APAID in the area of Sport and Disability.

Mr Lemke, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, specifically noted the work Adapted Physical Activity International Development (APAID) was undertaking and their success in enhancing the quality of life for people with physical and intellectual disabilities

Mr Lemke wrote:
APAID’s approach of implementing capacity-building sports programmes which aim at the inclusion of persons with disabilities is an effective means of empowering those with whom they work.

"APAID’s activities help in changing misconceptions about persons with disabilities and are important for the role they play in reducing stigma which is often linked to unfounded stereotypes, inaccurate assumptions, negative perceptions and prejudice. Through sport, APAID is helping build more inclusive communities and therefore greater social cohesion and cooperation.”

APAID, in conjunction with their implementation partner in Uganda, The Kids League, has just completed a capacity building campaign for East Africa.

As part of the campaign they conducted their first APAID level 2 course involving 4 Kenyans (volunteers of MYSA APAID Kids with disabilities project) and 6 Ugandans (volunteers and staff of APAID The Kids' League Uganda A'League program) to become trainers of new coaches in the area of disability.

In addition, 23 new coaches successfully completed the initial theory component of the APAID level 1 training.
