Six teams made up of 48 hopeful players vying for selection for the Homeless World Cup competed in the Australian National Championships in Brisbane.

The team from Victoria took the national honours while Scott from Wollongong won the male player of the tournament and female player of the tournament was Nicole from Western Australia.

Street Socceroos Coach George Halkias said:
“While not everyone will make the Australian team, all the players have shown that they can achieve great things.”

The Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman presented the trophy to the winning team and thanked the public for getting behind the event. He went on to say
“I want Brisbane to be a better and more inclusive city and one that is committed to achieving social change”.

Street Soccer in Australia began in Melbourne in 2004 and now operates in 16 sites across the country. This will be the fifth year Australia has entered their National team, the Street Socceroos, in the Homeless World Cup.
