National Basketball Association (NBA) players and coaches led by former NBA all-star Dikembe Mutombo participated in this year’s Basketball without Borders camp.

The 8th edition of the annual Basketball without Borders Africa programme took place from 5-8 August 2010 in Dakar, Senegal.

The camp was a combination of intensive basketball exercise and instruction with community outreach efforts. The programme invites the 65 most promising young basketball stars from around Africa to partake in the camp.

Through the NBA Cares initiative, NBA players and coaches are participating in outreach programs in Dakar and intend to create centers where youth can enjoy basketball while receiving valuable life lessons in seminars developed in partnership with local NGOs.

NBA Vice President of Development Africa remarked:
“The Basketball without Borders program has a long tradition of helping create positive change through the values of our game and I look forward to assembling the top basketball talent on the continent as we continue to help grow the game of basketball in Africa.”

Activities were organized by the National Basketball Association (NBA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB)
