Café 89 podcast: Stories on athlete migration
The SiNAFE Project is an EU Erasmus+ Collaborative Partnership Project that was conceived, with aim to develop a support mechanism for the social inclusion of migrant African athletes in Europe, thereby promoting social inclusion and equal chances in sport for all individuals, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, under the premise of 'sport is a human right.'
The Café 89 podcast, which now has two episodes, brings awareness to the issue of athlete migration, reflecting on both the challenges and opportunities for migrants pursuing a professional career in sport.
This week we present an interview with Ode Fulutudilu. Ode currently plays for FC Fleury 91 in Fleury-Merogis, France, and she gives an account of her journey from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she was born, to France. Speaking of the importance of having a support mechanism in place when pursuing a sports career, she said:
“It is extremely important to have, not just any person, to have the right person who has the capabilities of helping you through, because it's a long process, is not an easy process.”
The first episode of the podcast featured Alassane Diakité's testimony. Diakité is a football player from Mali and is one of numerous kids and teenagers who were duped into travelling to Europe to play football, only to find out that the reality is completely different.
