The award will be presented to the representative of the nominating FISU Member Federation at the next Summer Universiade in August 2017 in Taipei city, Chinese Taipei .

It is an evident necessity for higher education institutions to set up an action plan to promote gender equality along with appropriate measures. On this basis, the Gender Equality Committee of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) has established the Gender Equality-Sport Award as a concrete action aiming at contributing to the decision-making process at political level in order to encourage higher education institutions and research institutes to develop initiatives focusing on gender equality while giving the gender equality topic an extra boost.

The FISU Gender Equality-Sport Award is given to an existing project developed by a FISU member federation, an organisation, an institution or an individual to promote gender equality in the framework of university sport. Particular attention is given to projects that could act as models for other countries, regions and/or continents. The award aims to increase the proportion of women involved in university sport and to promote better gender balance in academia, and therefore it complements the resources that institutions allocate to gender equality.

Nomination process

Any federation, organisation, institution or individual wishing to put forward a nomination must submit their proposal to a FISU Member Federation, using the official nomination form. In addition, they must provide information about:

  • The nominee’s completed or current action, programmes or initiatives to achieve significant improvement in women’s participation in NUSF or in their respective executive bodies (no more than one page)
  • The tangible, documented results of such action, programmes or initiatives (no more than one page)

If necessary, FISU may request other supporting documents. FISU shall accept only projects proposed by FISU Member Federations. Each of them may present a maximum of three projects. FISU shall consider only the nomination forms that are properly completed and signed by the nominator and the nominee.

The FISU Member Federations must submit their selection to the FISU Secretariat no later than 30 June 2017.
