Cambodian National Volleyball League (Disabled) Announces Leonard Cohen Benefit Concert in Support of Cambodian Athletes with Disability.

CNVLD Secretary General Chris Minko has announced Leonard Cohen as the first act to play 'The Phnom Penh Concerts: The Mekong Sessions', a new CNVLD initiative organizing benefit concerts by the world's most renowned recording artists in support of Cambodians with a disability.

In a statement released June 17, 2010, Mr. Minko emphasized the pioneering nature of upcoming concerts within a sports and development context, "The Mekong Sessions will serve as an exceptionally innovative and positive vehicle for raising awareness of the athletic achievements and the ability of Cambodians with a disability and will assist the CNVLD's long-term sustainability objectives through enabling substantial, independent income streams to be channeled directly into the ongoing development of sporting and cultural programmes for the persons with a disability of Cambodia.

"We wish to convey our sincere gratitude to Mr. Cohen, Robert Kory, Manager to Mr. Cohen & Rob Hallett of AEG Live for their assistance in producing this epic event. This concert demonstrates that Cambodia has successfully emerged from the tragic events of the recent past of civil conflict and re-ignites its well established tradition of cultural excellence."
