Exploring the future: Where is sport for development going next?

An emerging market economy describes the economy of a nation that is progressing towards becoming more advanced. These countries experience an expanding role both in the world economy and on the political frontier. Most recently these have been the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, and China).

What signals an emerging market for the global economy doesn't necessarily correlate with emerging areas in the development sector. While development in Brazil and India has taken off, China and Russia don't embrace social development. Brazil's development has largely been attached to the legacy work of the World Cup and the Olympics, and India opens its doors to foreign investment, but strong stigmas still remain around in-country development work.

So, what signals exist to point us towards emerging areas of need and development?
