Fair Play inspires with story of sport's role in ending apartheid

As the world celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release and turns its attention to South Africa for the World Cup, the Have You Heard From Johannesburg Campaign is shining a light on the achievements of the global anti-apartheid movement and inspires audiences to think about what they can do to utilize sport to change the world today.

, in collaboration with Active Voice and the Ford Foundation, invites you to share in a unique opportunity to educate and inspire your communities through the retelling the important story of sport's role in the anti-apartheid movement by hosting a screening of Fair Play – the third story of award winning filmmaker Connie Field’s seven-part documentary Have You Heard From Johannesburg.

Fair Play tells the dramatic story of the athletes and activists around the world who refused to play with apartheid, pushing South Africa’s teams out of international sports competitions. Calling for fairness on and off the field, citizens around the world leveraged sports to bring the human rights crisis in South Africa to the forefront of global attention.

Fair Play shows how sports boycotts helped bring one of the world’s most brutally repressive governments to its knees. Have You Heard From Johannesburg is a powerful seven-part documentary series by acclaimed filmmaker Connie Field that shines light on the global citizens’ movement that took on South Africa’s apartheid regime. It reveals how everyday people helped challenge – and end – one of the greatest injustices the world has ever known.

The Have You Heard From Johannesburg Campaign is shining a light on the achievements of the global anti-apartheid movement and inspire audiences to think about what they can do to change the world today. Broadcasts of the series, an interactive web platform, and public screenings are bringing these untold stories to communities around the globe.

The Campaign is a partnership of Clarity Films, Active Voice and Steps International, with major funding provided by the Ford Foundation.
