From the 12th-22nd August Fiji’s tropical city of Suva was home to a course educating coaches of both able bodied and disabled players

The event kicked off with 39 teachers being taught the basic skills to enable them to spread the game at the grass roots level.

Following this, a two day, Level One Para Table Tennis Coaching Course was conducted.

This marked the first occasion in the Oceania region that a Para Table Tennis course had been run. Most of those present were teachers from special needs school and the outcome of the course will be 27 newly qualified coaches

The newly qualified coaches then had the opportunity to put their new found skills to the test coaching 71 special needs children with visual, hearing and mental impairments. This was the children’s first taste of table tennis and was reportedly met with smiles and an appetite for more
