This football match in Haiti not only provided amputees with a stage to illustrate their physical and mental strength despite their disabilities, but it also reflected the power of sport in disaster relief.
After the Haitian earthquake of 2010 many people were left badly injured and seeking help. Even though this natural disaster hit Haiti over a year ago, many basic opportunities and outlets are still not readily available for those who were so badly affected.
One spectator reflects these problems by saying "The whole world sees and [hears] that we are human, and that we want to live, but here in Haiti there is no life for us".
Thanks to a large financial committment from various aid organisations, 17 of the earthquake survivors were provided with this opportunity to play against the Haitian National Amputee Soccer Team in the National Stadium.
