Galaxy Sports Academy hosts seminar on opportunities for women in sports in Pakistan
On 23 April 2019, the Galaxy Sports Academy (GSA) hosted a seminar focused around “How to move forward in life and get opportunities in sports” for girls aspiring to pursue sports in life. The seminar was organised with the help of University of the Punjab (PU), and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Women Wing.
Many officials and girls were in attendance, and among them were Rabia Qadir – founder and CEO of GSA, and celebrated member of the Pakistan national field hockey team. She said, “due to lack of guidance female players [are] facing a lot of problems which affects their lives. Sooner or later, through this seminar we are trying to tell them they can choose other fields of sports after retirement or during career if they do not make it to national and international as player.”
The seminar presented other ways that women and girls can be involved in sports in Pakistan. Shahid Aslam, the head of PCB Women Wing said that making the right decisions at the right times is the key to success. He said that there are opportunities for girls in sports and they must take advantage of these opportunities, “female player[s] must not restrict themselves to one area as they can be good coaches, trainers and get success in other sports fields and move forward in life.”
Tahira Saleem, sports director at PU, highlighted the university’s achievements in sports and what her institute offers to female players: talented players can study in PU free of cost.
GSA president Muhammad Babur announced that a media platform would be launched very soon through which female players can raise their voice and talk freely on different problems they face. This platform will also highlight their achievements in sports and other fields of life.
During the seminar, the group also held a white card ceremony to convey the message of peace through sports.
