How to connect and contribute
sportanddev.org is proud of its place at the centre of the sport and development community. An important feature of the platform is the contributions from Team Players and others in the sector to keep us updated with the latest goings-on in sport and development. These could be news articles, opinion pieces, the latest jobs or upcoming events – contributions that are valuable for the whole community – and we want to spread the good news.
The easiest way to contribute is to first set-up a Team Player profile. sportanddev.org has over 7,000 Team Players, one of the biggest online communities in sport and development. Being a Team Player makes it simpler to post and you can keep track of all of your contributions. It is also possible to connect with other Team Players and registered organisations. You can do this through our messaging system or by commenting on other articles.
To share an article, go to the News and views page while logged in to your profile. On the-right hand side under Add New, click ‘News’. This takes you to a new screen, where you simply add the information to build your article. The Title should be something that attracts the reader’s attention. It could be slightly cryptic or a pun on the content of the story. The Lead is then a very short introduction to the article. Try not to repeat information from the title in the lead. In the Body, you can enter your main text. Buttons at the top of the Body box allow you to format the article, adjust the fonts or add hyperlinks.
On the right-hand side you can add an image. The best dimensions to use are 765x430. You can add links to any relevant websites or other articles on sportanddev.org, and you can select what categories best suit your article – country, theme, region etc. Once you are happy with the article, select Save at the bottom of the page and leave the rest to us.
The article will not immediately be published. Instead, a member of the Operating Team reviews the article, makes any necessary minor adjustments (spelling, grammar, picture size etc.) and publishes it once it is ready. This process also ensures that there is not irrelevant or insensitive material published on the website.
If you are involved with a particular organisation in sport for development, once a Team Player profile is set-up, you can create a profile for your organisation. On the Connect page under Add New click Organisation, and you will have the opportunity to add information before clicking Save. Once complete, this allows you to create posts for news articles, jobs, events and contribute to our media section. Making these contributions is the same process as noted above for uploading articles.
