International Inspiration Launches in Jordan
International Inspiration (II) is funded by the British government and a number of other public and private organisations. Delivery of the programme is led by UK Sport in partnership with the British Council, UNICEF, The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and local partners.
The aim of the II programme is to harness the power of sport to transform lives of 12 million children and young people across 20 countries by 2012.
Jordan is the only country in the Middle East involved with the programme and will utilise sport to address a number of issues including:
- Social exclusion- particularly girls and those children and young people with disabilities.
- Empowerment of youth through provision of life skills
- Enhancement of sport and physical education in schools.
Dame Tanni Grey Thompson visited the International Inspiration programme and helped to launch the initiative in Jordan.
The aim is to reach over 1 million young people in the country over 3 years.
