The international Sport and Development conference Beyond 2010 will take place in Belleville, South Africa from 1-3 September 2010. The conference will examine the impact and legacy of the projects initiated in parallel to the 2010 FIFA World Cup...

The conference starts with the Young Researcher Day focusing on various topics in the field of Sport for Development.

Days 2 and 3 focus on the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which will be analysed from different angles. Furthermore the sustainability of the impact and of legacy projects will be discussed and will conclude with lessons learned, looking beyond 2010 and especially towards upcoming mega-events.

Young Researcher Day
The Young Researcher Day will showcase innovative research about various topics in the field of Sport for Development, including:

  • the Millennium Development Goals,
  • evaluation and research methodology,
  • gender,
  • health,
  • social transformation and Peace building, etc.

Days 2 and 3

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be examined from regional, national and international viewpoints. The impact of the World Cup will be analysed from different angles:
The impact on tourism, infrastructure and media as well as the social and economic impact.

Furthermore the sustainability of the impact and of legacy projects will be discussed and will conclude with lessons learned.

Thereby, we are looking beyond 2010 and especially towards upcoming mega-events, such as the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

This International Sport Conference Beyond 2010 is hosted by the Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Sports Science and Development (ICESSD) under the auspices of the University of the Western Cape (UWC), with the patronage of International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE).
