The second issue of a peer-reviewed, open access journal, dedicated entirely to sport for development, has now been published.

Volume 1, Issue 2 of the Journal of Sport for Development (JSFD) has been published.

Noting that there were no peer-reviewed journals publishing research exclusively on sport for development and that many practitioners didn't have access to the few subscription-based journals that were publishing relevant content, the editorial board first conceived the publication in November 2011 and the first issue was published in March 2013. The journal hopes to help the sector move towards a sound evidence base for sport for development interventions.

The contents of JSFD Volume 1, Issue 2 include:

  • Lemke, W. Foreword: Message of support for the Journal of Sport for Development
  • LeCrom C and Dwyer B. Plus-sport: The impact of a cross-cultural soccer coaching exchange
  • Sherry E and O'May F. Exploring the impact of sport participation in the Homeless World Cup on individuals with substance abuse or mental health disorders
  • Ekholm D. Sport and crime prevention: Individuality and transferability in research
  • Coleby J and Giles AR. Discourses at Work in Media Reports on Right To Play’s “Promoting Life-Skills in Aboriginal Youth” Program
  • Whitley M, Wright EM, Gould D. Coaches’ Perspectives on Sport-Plus Programmes for Underserved Youth: An Exploratory Study in South Africa

There is an open, rolling submissions policy and papers due to be published in the journal will be made available immediately after they are accepted (i.e. before the release of the next edition).
