A range of stakeholders meet to celebrate Kick4Life’s achievements at an event in London.

Since 2005, Kick4Life has developed from “a crazy idea to dribble a football for 250 miles across Africa in ten days” to a football for social change organisation which has reached more than 250,000 children and young people in Lesotho. During that time, its successes have included:

  • More than 25,000 young people tested for HIV
  • More than 50,000 young people completed sports-based health education and life-skills curriculum
  • Over 1,000 out-of-school youth have attained key skills standards in literacy, numeracy and IT skills
  • One top class restaurant and hotel and conference centre launched, providing sustainable income for Kick4Life and training and employment for young people
  • One Football for Hope Centre secured for Lesotho including health and education facilities and the country’s first 5-a-side artificial pitch

On Thursday 15 October, sportanddev.org joined a group of Kick4Life staff, friends and volunteers as well as sport and development stakeholders and special guests including Lesotho High Commission and former Premiership football star Quinton Fortune, to celebrate the organisation’s achievements at Brown’s Restaurant in London.

Guests were treated to drinks and canapes, as well as a fundraising auction and an interview with co-founder and chief executive Steve Fleming. A video telling the story of a project participant and an on stage interview with Puky, a former project beneficiary now working for Kick4Life who had flown from Lesotho especially to attend, highlighted the impact of the organisation’s work, especially on those whose lives have been affected by HIV and AIDS.

sportanddev.org would like to thank Kick4Life for the invitation to a memorable evening and looks forward to following the organisation’s progress as it continues to develop over the next ten years!
