A first for India - a large-scale conference focusing on Sport & Development begins in Mumbai, India.

As a pioneer in the sport for development arena in India, Magic Bus is hosting the Maidan Summit 2010, a Sport for Development National Meeting held on 19th May, 2010, at the TISS Convention Centre in Mumbai. The conference will bring together agencies and individuals concerned with sport and development in India.

The Maidan Summit 2010 aims to:

  • Advocate and legitimise cross-sectoral use of Sport for Development (S4D).
  • Create an interactive forum for S4D practitioners.
  • Take the S4D dialogue to policy makers and donor agencies.
  • Introduce global S4D resources, models, outcomes, case studies and best practice.
  • Strengthen the S4D platform in India.

Target Audience

Apart from NGOs with a demonstrable interest in Sport for Development, participants will include policy makers, national institutions, donor agencies, corporate houses with active CSR programmes and international experts.

The Maidan Summit starts with various organisations arriving at the TISS Convention Centre in Mumbai, ready to share and exchange ideas on Sport for Development in India.

Rahul Brahmbhatt, Jinesh Mistry and Jaidip Patel from Ahmedabad Ultimate are keen to learn from other sports organisations in India on how best to improve their initiative to introduce Ultimate Frisbee to a curious and enthusiastic Indian audience.

Jaidip shared his perceived need to ensure Ultimate Frisbee in India retains a social element, apart from developing the sport itself in a purely competitive way.

He referred to the motivated young people from India, who, through their unbridled passion for Ultimate Frisbee, voluntarily devote their time and effort to training and coaching other young people from the community.
