The International Platform on Sport and Development (sportanddev) recognises the need to upgrade our current website, in order to be fit for purpose and better serve the needs of our community.

We are a community driven platform and prioritise collaboration and openness, so we have engaged our community through a survey to ask what they would like to see in a new or upgraded website.

We would also like to outline the rationale behind a new or upgraded website, noting that this is by no means exhaustive and may be subject to change based on community input and other feedback.

Nonetheless, the creation of a new or upgraded website serves a number of objectives, including:

  1. More comprehensive coverage of the role of sport in enabling development and peace, including contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other priorities.
  2. Improved functionality and enhanced user experience, (ideally) including the ability for interactive/two-way communication and ability to host communities of practice or forums. Ideally, this would also include an online learning section with relevant resources and tools.
  3. Increased value for investors, sponsors, registered organisations and individuals.
  4. A more comprehensive online mapping of the relevant networks, organisations and individuals in sport and development (filtered by outcome area/geography/sport type etc.)
  5. Research Corner: A comprehensive synthesis of research (applied and academic) in sport and development (filtered by outcome area/type of research/strength of evidence etc.)
  6. Improved alignment of content and features to global and other policy frameworks.

These objectives are by no means exhaustive and we recognise that different sectors of our community will use the website in different ways and have different needs and interests. As noted above, we will take community feedback into account as we move forward with this project.

Further, we are developing a business case and fundraising plan for an upgraded or new website. If any members of the sportanddev community are able to support in any way or connect us to others, that would be much appreciated – you can indicate this in the survey or contact us directly.
