Now that the Next Step 2011 Conference has drawn to a close, recommendations were submitted to determine the best way to move forward to and progress to the next level.

The morning session of the last day of the Next Step 2011 conference saw issues related to charting the way forward, as the sessions drew to a close.

Ways forward
Usha Selvaraju of sportanddev provided an insight into the potential of sportanddev to be used in the follow up to Next Step 2011, to continue discussions, to facilitate participants keeping in touch with each other and to discuss the recommendations.

Other presentations focused on ways forward and approaches to carrying Next Step to the 'next level' through theoretical frameworks, communication approaches, advocacy and partnerships, among other suggestions.

Wrap up
Colin Higgs had the difficult task of pulling together the strands of discussions on the disparate topics addressed. Among the recommendations made was the need to address audiences outside the S&D sector (e.g. in development, in sport) to engage them in using sport as a tool for development.

There was the call to find ways to address the huge needs in S&D with the small amount of existing resources available. The conference ended with support for global structures in S&D and for a link to be made between sportanddev and the Next Step conference series.
