The United Nation's Foundation announces close to 350'000 bed nets will be sent to 11 African countries...

The United Nations Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, working with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), recently announced that it will send more than 346,000 life-saving bed nets to refugees in temporary camps in 11 African countries, where malaria is the number one killer of refugees.

In the lead up to World Malaria Day on April 25, Nothing But Nets supporters hosted hundreds of events such as basketball tournaments, bake sales, soccer shoot-outs and pub crawls, and raised enough funds to send more than 275,000 nets to 27 camps in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Sudan.

Inspired by an article written by Sports Illustrated and ESPN columnist Rick Reilly, the UN Foundation created the Nothing But Nets campaign to raise funds to send long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets to Africa.

Nothing but Nets' Achievements
In just two years, through partnerships with the National Basketball Association’s NBA Cares, the Women’s National Basketball Association’s WNBA Cares and Major League Soccer’s MLS W.O.R.K.S. among others, Nothing But Nets has raised more than $26 million and distributed over 2 million nets to families throughout Africa.

What is a bed net?
Bed nets prevent malaria transmission by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night, when the vast majority of transmissions occur. It costs just $10 to purchase and deliver a net to a refugee in need.

As Reilly first asked, “If you have ever gotten a thrill by throwing, kicking, knocking, dunking, slamming, putting up, cutting down or jumping over a net,” visit www.NothingButNets.net to send a net and save a life.
