  • 59.3% of the project leaders for current ITTF Foundation projects are female
  • 53% of the project participants of current ITTF Foundation projects are female

  • The signing of the Brighton Declaration and ITTF Member Associations activation

FEMpowerment and gender equity for our projects

UNSGD 5 – Gender equity is one of the most targeted sustainable development goals among all current ITTF Foundation projects. 19% of our projects such as Community Table Tennis in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India actively contribute to promoting education regardless of gender as well as the fairer representation of females in sport.

59.3% of the project leaders behind all our great initiatives are female, while 53% of the project participants are girls and women. We are proud of the gender balance in most of our projects and wanted to make sure such balance is not only maintained, but further enhanced and extended to other aspects of our operation.

Inspirational women series

One of our ongoing FEMpowerment campaigns, the Inspirational Women Series, is a series of articles that supports and celebrates women’s participation in sport, as well as the courage they exhibit in challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes. In 2021, we published 11 articles with empowering stories of female role models whose reach transcends the table tennis community.

The signing of the Brighton Declaration

Taking the next step on FEMpowerment and gender equity, the ITTF Foundation has joined around 600 other international organisations in signing the Brighton Declaration in October 2021.

Developed and established by the International Working Group on Women and Sport in 1994, the Brighton Declaration complements all sporting, local, national, and international charters, laws, codes, and regulations relating to equity in sport and physical activity. Committed to upholding the ten principles that enable women and girls to freely and safely participate, compete and build careers in sport and physical activity, the signing of the Brighton Declaration marks only the beginning of our mission in promoting gender equity in the sports world.

“The ITTF Foundation has always been at the forefront of gender equity. Having started with FEMpowerment for World Table Tennis Day 2021, we are dedicated to supporting the ongoing development of a fairer and more inclusive sports system for women and girls. We encourage all ITTF Member Associations to join us in signing the Brighton Declaration. Together we can make the world a fairer place.” – Leandro Olvech, ITTF Foundation Director.
