The Peace and Sport Awards 2009

The Peace and Sports Awards were held on the evening of 26th November in Monaco. The awards celebrate initiatives and individuals that have significantly contributed to the betterment of society through the use of sport from across the globe.

Over 400 people were present for the award ceremony in which H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Joel Bouzou, President and Founder of the organisation, presented awards for five projects

Winners of the awards were selected by a panel comprised of individuals playing a significant art in the promotion of peace on a global scale. The panel included:

  • Joel Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, Modern Pentathlon Olympic Champion,
  • Wilfried Lemke, Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General of the Office on Sport for Development and Peace,
  • Hellen Sambili MP, Minister of Youth and Sport for Kenya,
  • Wilson Kipketer, triple World Champion in Athletics (800m),
  • Pernilla Wiberg, Ski Olympic Champion and member of the International Olympic Committee,
  • Johann Koss, President of Right To Play, Speed Skating Olympic Champion,
  • Matvey Shparo, Arctic explorer and
  • Erik Monjalous, Director of Sales and Marketing for Agence France-Presse
