sportanddev.org will bring you first hand coverage from Monaco.

On 23-25 November 2016, the ninth Peace and Sport International Forum will take place in Monaco. Organisers expect over 500 people to attend. They will include leading figures from sport, politics, academia, the private sector and civil society.

The event will focus on “how sport can help to foster sustainable peace and forge agents of change committed to act for a better, fairer and more united world”. The theme of this year’s forum is: “Game on for peace: mobilising global change through sport”. The programme will include panel discussions, workshops and networking events and look at a range of topics including gender equity, the integration of refugees, sports diplomacy and digital media.

One of the event’s highlights is the Peace and Sport Awards, taking place on 24 November. They reward “organisations and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to peace, dialogue and social stability through sport”. There are nine categories, including “Federation of the year”, “Non-governmental organisation of the year” and “Event of the year”.

sportanddev.org is delighted to be attending and reporting this year. We will bring you articles on a range of topics on the role of sport in peacebuilding and the highlights from the summit for those of you unable to attend. Thank you to Peace and Sport for inviting us to cover the event.
