Climate change is increasingly recognised as a major human security issue that poses serious global threats. As part of educating youth, ACRO Ghana joined Moving Planet to celebrate an event, held every year on the 24 September.

The event held on 24 September and organised by ACRO Ghana and Moving Planet aimed at raising the youth’s awareness of some of the major problems they face.

ACRO Ghana organised a football match for a youth team, where girls plays with the boys. Herewith female participation in sport, but also in decision-making in daily life was encouraged.

The youth and the communities were also advised on environmental issues. Inusah Yakubu, Northern Coordinator of ACRO Ghana, urged the community to stop the burning of bushes, the indiscriminately felling of trees and encouraged them to plant trees, to sever as windbreakers, to help control noise pollution, and to fight against soil erosion.

The head coach of ACRO Ghana, Ben Anani, gave the youth health advise. He noted that exercise positively impacts individuals’ health by reducing the risk of diseases, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer as well as depression and anxiety.

The Assembly Representive of Kobilimahagu Electorial area, Afa Mustapha, commended ACRO Ghana for their continuous support, not only to the youth in the area, but the communities as a whole. He reminded the youth to not only concentrate on sports, but to take their education seriously, as it would open many opportunities for them in future.

He further asked the parents to be responsible and avoid unnecessary spending in order to ensure their children were well clothed, sheltered and educated, in order for them to grow into responsible adults.
