Over October and November the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS) will be delivering a number of workshops to try and promote physical activity among LSES mothers.

CAAWS provides leadership and education, and builds capacity to foster equitable support, diverse opportunities and positive experiences for girls and women in sport and physical activity.

During October and November work shops will be delivered to professionals and physical activity promoters who work with LSES mothers across Canada.

The foundation for the workshops will be the findings of a 2008 Canadian wide study which utilised focus groups with LSES mothers and physical activity promoters.

In addition, current physical activity tools that have been developed to assist practitioners to better address specific community issues and barriers with respect to accessibility, availability and affordability of physical activity opportunities for LSES mothers will be highlighted and discussed.

Dates for the remaining work shops are:

  • November 6, 2009-- November 6, 2009 -- English workshop in Fredericton, NB
  • November 10, 2009 -- English workshop in Kelowna, BC
  • November 12, 2009-- English workshop in Vancouver, BC (Burnaby Family Life Metrotown)

Workshops are approximately 2 hours in duration and complementary resources will be provided to each participant.
