RSG President and volunteers visit project sites
Three volunteers, led by Rural Soccer Ghana (RSG) President Laure Arnal, visited the RSG project communities, villages and their fields, to interacts with public schools’ pupil and introduce new games to the youth, including games such as Seat Ball, and the Cat and Mouse game. At Kalariga and Kpanvo communities, the volunteers presented 61 boots, four sets of jerseys, 27 footballs and other sport kits. Alhassan Jibala, the captain of Kpanvo youth team, thanked RSG for the donations and assured the visiting entourage that the sport kits will be put to good use. At Tolon, Kumbungu and Bogunnayili, similar donations were made including four sets of jerseys, 47 boots and other sport kits. Mr. Ziblim Yakubu, WUDEP Executive Director, thanked RSG for its partnership and commended RSG for the donation of sports kits to the youth, allowing them to sustain their interest in football. He also assured RSG that as a local partner organization, WUDEP will support the expansion of the project to more communities in Kumbungu Distrct.
He further used the opportunity to appeal to the youth and community to retrain from burning the bush and felling trees indiscriminately, as we are approaching the dry and harmattan season. He mentioned some of the effects of bushfire on the environment, including the destruction of vegetation, especially rice and maize, making the land bare and exposed to harsh climate conditions, which leads to the reduction of agricultural production.
She appealed to individuals and organizations to support this initiative. She also mentioned that the organization has plans to register or renew the kids with the National Health Insurance scheme and support the brilliant and needy students in their education. She took the opportunity to thank supporters like Foot Vallon, Football GlobeTrotter and sportanddev for their continued support since the start of the project.
Alhaji Iddi Salifu, the youth leader of Kumbungu traditional area, commended RSG for their benevolence and encouraged other organizations and individuals to follow suit and support the youth in deprived communities.
Laure Arnal, RSG President, said in her speech: “When football is seen as just a sport, we see it as an opportunity; when they see it as leisure, we see it as a tool of change to the community. Football has got many kids off the streets, changed the family, and created many opportunities for the people.”
