HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan lauds Samsung’s support of grassroots impact in communities across the Levant region

18 Feb. 2018 – Amman/Jordan: Generations For Peace, the global peace-building NGO based in Jordan, and Samsung Electronics, the global technology giant and worldwide partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), are proud to announce the renewal of their Regional Partnership supporting grassroots peace-through-sport programmes in communities in Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq. This takes the successful cooperation between the two organisations into its eleventh year, and further establishes Samsung, an official partner of the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, as an advocate for peace-through-sport on a global scale.

Just as Samsung’s “Do What You Can’t” campaign for the PyeongChang “Peace Games” invites youth to achieve the extraordinary and inspire others, so too is Samsung’s partnership with Generations For Peace inspiring and supporting volunteers to use the power of sport to lead positive change in diverse conflict contexts around the world. The partnership includes support for community programmes, training, and the annual Samsung Generations For Peace Awards, which recognise the extraordinary achievements of Generations For Peace volunteers in four categories at the heart of the success of both Samsung and Generations For Peace: innovation, quality, impact and sustainability.

The partnership began in 2008, and Samsung is the longest-serving corporate partner of Generations For Peace, providing crucially important support as the organisation has grown, proving the success of its unique approach, and earning global recognition.

Commenting on Generations For Peace’s role in helping the advancement of Samsung’s commitment to human-centric innovation, Mr. Changsup Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Levant, stated:

With 10 years of successful partnership under our belts, we look forward to continuing our collaboration with Generations For Peace, supporting innovative approaches to engage youth in peace building at the grassroots around the globe. Generations For Peace inspires us with its passion, innovation, impact and excellence, and is a perfect fit for Samsung’s mission to create positive change through our corporate citizenship programmes, based on societal needs and aligned with our core competencies as a leading technology company. We are very proud that Generations For Peace has consistently risen through the ranks and this year has earned the #30 ranking in the World’s Top 500 NGOs. This recognition is well-deserved, and Samsung is committed to continue our partnership together to turn our shared passion into positive impact in people’s lives in communities across the region.

Generations For Peace Founder and Chairman, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan, stated:

Samsung’s steadfast support to Generations For Peace represents more than just its unwavering dedication to corporate social responsibility – it sends the important message that major corporations have a significant role to play in peace-building movements at all levels, from local grassroots to an international scale. Over the last ten years our region has faced immense challenges, but our partnership together is founded on a strong shared commitment to innovate, test, learn and adapt to create the most effective and impactful ways to support youth to lead positive and sustainable changes in their own communities. Powered by Samsung’s support, the model has delivered concrete results in schools and youth centres across the region, and has attracted growing support to enable us now to take our programmes to nationwide scale, benefitting more children youth, children, and adults than ever before.
