With almost 250 Team Players, the Sport & Development online community has been growing steadily over the last 6 months until December 2008. Each month, a brief selection of interesting entries will be presented to you – this is just a glimpse of what you can find in the Connect section of the Platform, so please join in!

In December, various individuals active in the area of S&D decided to get involved on www.sportanddev.org and presented their work to the community. For example, Amy Farkas, a well-known S&D expert, set up a personal account. The account enables others to learn about Amy’s career in S&D which started in 1991, when she first became a volunteer with Special Olympics. On her personal profile page, you’ll also be able to learn more about her involvement as a Development Manager for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and her current position at UNICEF in New York.

Over the last 3 months many organisations implementing programmes in the field have joined in, and are making use of the possibility to present their work on the Platform. Moving the Goalposts (MTG), an initiative aiming to empower girls and women in the Kenyan Kilifi district, is one among numerous examples of organisations who joined the Platform’s online community in December 2008.

The Platform is also well-known for presenting the various projects in the field of S&D. Knocking Down Barriers through Sport!, a project running in Mutare, Zimbabwe, illustrates how sport can be used as a tool for social inclusion for people living with disabilities.

So why not make the most of the promotion opportunities offered by the Platform? All you have to do is create your own personal account, and present your work to the growing S&D online community!
