Search and Groom's FEMPOWER score

Search and Groom’s FEMPOWER has won the female five-a-side football tournament organized in celebration of the tenth anniversary of Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria at the Union Bank sports complex Surulere.

FEMPOWER, with the theme kick away your boundaries is a programme initiated with the aim of reducing the disadvantages that women have in Nigerian society with the emphasis on empowerement through sport. Fair play, social interaction, repect and discipline are hallmarks of the programme. 

10th Anniversary of Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of Down Syndrome Foundation Nigeria, FEMPOWER played against MTN staff in the final game of a football tournament  winning 3:0, with all the goals coming in the first half of the game. Leading by example, Yusuff Suliat the captain of the team scored two goals, the third goal was helped into the net by an MTN staff while trying to stop Zainab Roli’s shot from crossing the goal line.

Sharing experiences
Playing in a round robin alongside three other teams, DSFN staff, MTN staff and Special Olympics volunteers, FEMPOWER came out victorious. The gold medal winners include, Yusuff Suliat, Zainab Roli, Alogba Toyosi, Sulaimon Esther, Oradare Yemisi, Dike Patience, Izume Isoke and Umukorro Rebecca. The team was led by Adekunle Adegbile and Durunna Ndubisi.

The tournament provided an opportunity for the FEMPOWER players to share their experiences with the teams. As a follow up to the event, the MTN staff team will be inviting TEAM FEMPOWER for a visit to their corporate office which will be focused towards mentoring and empowerment programmes.
