The couple share a passion for skateboarding, traveling and filmmaking, and were inspired to see skateboarding have such a positive impact on kids.
Skateistan Cambodia runs daily skateboarding lessons, including girls’ sessions and classes for disabled youth, with lessons taught by former students and peer volunteers.
Skateboarding lessons are paired with 1 hour arts-based educational workshops to further build on the confidence and friendships realised in the skatepark.
Skateistan Cambodia uses skateboarding as a tool or “hook” to engage youth in the more comprehensive health, education, and counselling services provided by other best practices NGOs in Cambodia.
Skateboarding is only just emerging as a sport in Cambodia, and the film demonstrates how it can be used as a tool for self-empowerment, access to education and creating better futures.
Each week Skateistan Cambodia works with over 150 marginalised youth in the city of Phnom Penh.
