Skateboarding offers Gazan youngsters a refuge from strife (China Daily)

15-year-old Ali Ahmed is a Gazan youngster, who has been impacted by the ongoing political crisis in his country. He, like many others, is resorting to sport to get some relief from the stress of living in war. He began to explore skateboarding in 2014. His coach Rajab al-Rifi began skateboarding after being trained by an Italian sports team that visited Gaza, and he has been helping hundreds of Gazan youngsters cope with stress through skateboarding.

Allianz and Cumann na mBunscol launch GAA initiative to support Ukrainian pupils (GAA)

26 schools in Ireland are participating in the joint initiative that supports Ukrainian children in participating in local Gaelic game activities. Allianz will provide these schools with 500 footballs, 200 hurleys and 200 sliothars to help Ukrainian refugee schoolchildren engage with Irish national games.

Somali refugee takes centre stage in futsal league action (Monitor)

Abukar Ali Mohamed, a Somali refugee in Uganda, will be officiating the Futsal Super League 2022. Though limited in his ability to meet people due to language barriers, futsal and football activities have allowed him to integrate into his new community. The activities helped him learn English, and now he is recognised as a top referee.

Awer Mabil: Sudanese refugee says his penalty is ‘a thank you to Australia’ (BBC)

Australia is through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, a win secured by a decisive penalty scored by Awer Mabil. He said his win was for Australia, his adoptive country. Mabil was born in a refugee camp in Kenya after his parents fled conflict in Sudan. His family resettled in Australia in 2006, and he started his professional football career there.
