Sport and SDGs case study: African Nations Amateur Development Association
How does your organisation work toward achieving the SDGs?
African Nations Amateur Development Association uses the unifying and transformative power of football activities and programmes to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We do this through our grassroots football trainings, tournaments, boot camps and workshops.
Which specific goals do you target?
- Quality Education
- Gender Equality
- Quality Health and Well-being
- Sustainable Environment and Cities
- Peace
- Zero Hunger
- Zero Poverty
- Partnership for the Goals
What changes have you made to your work since the SDGs were introduced in January 2016?
We have introduced SDGs in all our programmes and football for good activities. By donating didactic materials to youths, we promote academic excellence, reduce illiteracy, promote gender equality and social inclusion and ensure a peaceful community through football activities. We promote quality health through HIV prevention sensitisation, campaigns, awareness etc.
How is your organisation measuring progress?
We measure progress through our monitoring committee which monitors academics, health and the social life of our playing members. We also measure progress through reports and also testimonials from teachers, coaches and parents. We measure progress through the number of children and youths positively affected by our programmes and activities.
