Sport and SDGs case study: Pro Sport Development

We teach young people sport values which empower them to become better future leaders.

How does your organisation work toward achieving the SDGs?

Pro Sport Development (PSD) works with children and youth via programmes utilising multi-sports and physical activity, to aid in their social, cognitive and personality development as well as their physical and mental health and well-being. PSD breaks prevailing gender stereotypes by ensuring all programmes include equal number of girls and boys participating together. Moreover, we inculcate in young people the various sporting values, and assist in soft skill development, empowering them to become future leaders.

Which specific goals do you target?

In our Community Sports Program for children between five and15 years of age, we target Goal 3 (Good Health & Well-Being), Goal 4 (Quality Education) ad Goal 5 (Gender Equality).
As part of the Kadam Badhate Chalo programme for youth between 15 and 25 years of age, our emphasis is on Goal 5 (Gender Equality).
To successfully deliver both programmes, we partner with different institutions including NGOs, educational institutions and donors, propagating Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

What changes have you made to your work since the SDGs were introduced in January 2016? 

We have not made many changes in our programming since the introduction of the SDGs in 2016, as the goals were already part of our programme objectives and organisational values. However, we have modified the manner in which we advocate the impact of our programmes with various stakeholders, by linking these to the SDGs we specifically target.

How is your organisation measuring progress?

We are measuring progress by:

  • Capturing changes observed in the participants by documenting them via stories of change including case studies, visual media and interviews, collected in a participatory manner, including different stakeholders such as the participants themselves, parents, school teachers and community members
  • Evaluating the impact of our interventions by comparative analyses of data collected during the baseline and end-line surveys
