Sport as a tool for peacebuilding and conflict resolution

Generations For Peace is organising an event in Jordan for 80 participants of their Violence in Schools Programme.

To commemorate this momentous day, GFP Jordan will be holding a sport for peace event for participants of the Violence in Schools Programme. The Violence in Schools Programme is a Jordan based GFP programme equipping students with peacebuilding and conflict transformation skills necessary to better their, often violent, school environment.

To be held on 5 April 2014, the Sport For Peace Event will bring together 80 students (40 boys and 40 girls) from across four schools. This will be the first time the students from all four schools will interact. Moreover, the event will enable teachers to exchange experiences and lessons learnt.

As the only peace through sport organisation officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee, GFP shares the belief in sport as an "innovate tool for education, health, social inclusion, sustainability, youth development and peace building."

The GFP Sport For Peace Event to be held in celebration of IDSDP seeks to showcase the usefulness of sport as a vehicle for peacebuilding. Generations For Peace is convinced that sport can contribute to building acceptance, fostering cooperation, ensuring inclusion, developing respect, taking responsibility and building trust.
