Rachael David, an English teacher, sportanddev.org Team Player, United Nations Online Volunteer and advocate for sport for development and peace, celebrated IDSDP with her students at TALK Miami School.

Leading up to 6 April, I informed my class of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and for that day, I asked them to wear attire that represented sport in some way.

We started the day reading about the history of the Olympic Games as 6 April was also the 120th anniversary of the Games. We also discussed the upcoming Games in Rio as a couple of the students are Brazilian. We had a trivia contest about sports played in the Olympics. After that, we talked about sport for development and peace and read articles on sport's positive impact. For homework, each student researched and wrote a composition on the impact of sport vis-à-vis health, empowerment, education, positive behaviour and so on and read it aloud in class the next day.

My students and I truly enjoyed being a part of the IDSPD and I, in particular, felt honoured to showcase success stories of sport and its positive impact. Students, for their part, said they learned so much more about what sport can do apart from its physical benefits.
