A project using sport and play for the psychosocial support of South Sudanese refugees in Uganda has been awarded by HundrED.

The Swiss Academy for Development’s Children on the Move project has been selected as one of the top innovations in the world by HundrED in their Global Collection 2023 report. The report highlights 100 of the brightest innovations in education from around the world. The project was also shortlisted in 2021. In this collection, a shortlist of innovations was reviewed by 188 Academy Members consisting of academics, educators, innovators, funders, leaders, and students from 113 countries. HundrED’s research team made the final 100 selections from a total of 3,488 reviews based on impact and scalability.

It is an achievement for both Children on the Move and the Swiss Academy for Development’s sport and play-based approach. For 15+ years, SA4D has used sport and play in its activities, for improving psychosocial health, in early childhood development, in formal and non-formal education, as well as in employment and integration projects.

About the Children on the Move project

Since 2017, the Swiss Academy for Development has supported South Sudanese children in improving their psychosocial wellbeing to recover from war-related trauma and rebuild their lives in refugee camps in Uganda. Through the organisation’s sport and play-based approach, children acquire skills to deal with daily challenges, actively shape their lives, and restore confidence, self-esteem and social cohesion to successfully participate in their communities. Children on the Move precedes the People on the Move project in Uganda, which started in 2021 and also includes adults.
