Three stars of track and field visited young people at KICK im Boxring, a project run by Youth Sport Berlin and supported by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

On 18th August, Sergey Bubka, Edwin Moses and Nawal El Moutawakel provided some coaching tips to the youth at the Treptow project prior to them taking part in a competition involving running and field events.

Normally active in the boxing ring the young people were inspired to try athletics because of the visit and the World Athletic Champs occurring in Berlin.

Nawal El Moutawakel commented
“This is exactly what we at Laureus are all about, sustainable programmes that involve all parts of the community”.

The KICK im Boxring project began in Treptow in 2007 as a way for youth to safely use their aggression in a controlled way while also learning other social skills.

The project has grown and now includes the Marzahn, Kreuzberg and Tiergarten districts of Berlin.

"KICK im Boxring is a great concept…. It takes care of young people at an age when it is really important to get them off the streets …I know that boxing can provide a real sense of achievement and confidence to young people" said Edwin Moses.
