Recently Peace Players International (PPI) teamed up with addidas in a week long initiative which brought together top high school basketballers from around the globe.

The week finished with the players coaching 120 local young people from the South Dallas area.

Interspersed with basketball skills training, the PPI team took the athletes through a number of off the court activities aimed at getting the players to communicate without speaking, a critical task given that the players spoke a number of different languages.

The PPI facilitators also led the athletes through team building activities where they were broken up into small groups to reach specific objectives. For example, groups had to build the highest tower of addidas shoe boxes with half the group blindfolded, or design a way of dropping an egg from a building’s second floor without it breaking. The activities were created to provide a feeling of trust and unity within the groups.

Throughout the week the PPI team worked towards the goal of preparing the players for the 2-hour session with youth from an underprivileged section of South Dallas. The players responded to the challenge by showing not only basket ball skills but a talent for leadership and mentoring.
