sportanddev.org and Louisiana State University will host a workshop at the EASM conference in Bern beginning 5 September 2017.

The European Association for Sport Management (EASM) brings together academics and professionals in the sport management sector. Their goals are to promote research and study of sport management, facilitate exchange between international bodies and encourage sharing of best practices and informative data related to the field. More information about the EASM and its publications can be found here.

This year the EASM will host its annual conference in Bern. Workshop themes include sport business intelligence, public health and physical activity management, and problematic issues in sport sponsoring, among others.

On 7 September sportanddev.org and Louisiana State University will host a workshop entitled “Organisational Innovation in Sport for Development and Peace”. A central aim is to encourage critical discussions between researchers and practitioners on how sport for development organisations can sustain innovative solutions to fulfil their missions. Discussions will cover how policymakers, external partners and funding agencies can advance this field.

Contributors are expected to shed light on the topic from a range of perspectives including:

  • How SDP practitioners define innovation
  • Creative programme designs
  • New organisational forms in SDP
  • Executive leadership
  • Local community perspectives
  • Creative monitoring and evaluation approaches
  • Critical intra-organisational factors
  • The role of funders and funding requirements
  • Creative inter-organisational collaborations
  • Organisational cultures of innovative SDP agencies
  • The role of environmental factors (economic, political, social)

Conveners are also encouraged to record short videos detailing the implications of their research which will be shared on sportanddev.org’s YouTube page as well as the platform. More information about topics covered and the outcomes of this workshop will be shared in the weeks following the conference.
