The World Cup Project
We will travel to eleven countries around the world where football is changing the lives of children and adults affected by war, religious persecution, homelessness and drug abuse. In each episode we will meet a new player, explore the part of the world they live in, and the work they do in their community to promote social change and development.
Produced by Collaborate Ideas & Images in New York City, The World Cup Project (WCP) is eleven episodes, each 15 minutes long, looking at the human face of sport. We will meet eleven non-professional football players and share their personal challenges and watch as they overcome them.
We start in the USA, in New Orleans, and travel to Chile, Haiti, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Israel, UK, India, Columbia and Lesotho. The final episode will be shot in Curitba and Salvador in Brazil prior to the tournament’s opening ceremony. The first episode will air in May 2014, with the final episode airing during the World Cup in June.
The WCP is already garnering attention from networks, film festivals and online distributors. We are currently in negotiations with several major US TV networks to acquire the distribution rights to the project, which has been chosen to be a part of the Google+ Film Festival in December. The WCP has also been offered an online distribution deal, which would see it reach millions of people around the globe – football fans and non-football fans alike.
The WCP isn’t just about football, it’s a human interest series aiming to give a voice to the voiceless in some of the poorest, most under developed parts of the world.
