Museke Kakuwa, an unsung hero of physical education work in Zambia, receives Honorary Fellowship at the University of Central Lancashire

The ‘father’ of Physical Education in Zambia Mr. Museke Kakuwa was on Monday 1st December 2009, the world AIDS day, awarded Honorary Fellowship of the University of Central Lancashire.

Like many unknown champions of Sport and Development, Museke has for over 20 years been the back ground key player for the Sport and Development movement in Zambia. During the time he was teacher trainer at Nkrumah College of Education in Zambia, Museke taught and inspired many current sport leaders in Zambia among them, the pioneer leaders of Zambian Sport and Development movement including Clement Chileshe (Founder - Sport in Action) and Oscar Mwaanga (Founder - EduSport).

Museke is a scholar at the University of Zambia where he has headed the Physical Education and sport programme for a number of years.

Museke was awarded the Honorary Fellowship for the years of outstanding contribution in leading PE and sport programmes and particularly his role in using traditional sport games as tools for HIV/AIDS Education.

He was also honoured for the support he has given the indigenous Sport and Development NGOs particularly Sport in Action and EduSport. The University of Central Lancashire is a key collaborating partner in various Sport and Development initiatives with University of Zambia, Nkrumah college of Education, Sport in Action and EduSport.

His award underscores the importance of acknowledging and appreciating the work of the countless at the grassroots whose sweat and sacrifice contributes to current success of international Sport and Development.
