The International Sociology of Sport Association holds its world congress in 2015 in Paris. The event is entitled "The sociological lens and the wellbeing of sport", and ISSA calls for paper submissions to be presented at the event. Abstract submission deadline: 10 December

Background

Wellbeing has become increasingly popular over the last few years as a research theme for sociologists, but it remains a contested concept. This multifaceted notion falls within the scope of both individual experience, and of institutions focusing on research, critical reflection and the promotion of wellbeing and health.

ISSA calls for papers in the following themes

  • Sociology of sport’s future: opportunities and challenges
  • Sport, health and wellbeing
  • Sport, health and risk
  • Sport and violence
  • Sport, physical activity and ageing
  • Sport and disability: institutions and education
  • Sport and disability: new sporting activities and new technologies
  • Sport and organisation
  • Sport and marketing
  • Sport and media
  • Sport and national identity
  • Sport, politics and policy
  • Sport and globalisation
  • Sport, business and management
  • Sport and performance
  • New sporting activities
  • Sport and new technologies
  • Sport and ethics
  • Sport and identity
  • Sport and social class
  • Sport and gender
  • Sport and sexuality
  • Sport and philosophy
  • Sport and literature
  • Physical education and sport at school/university
  • Other issues related to the sociology of sport

Key Dates
  • First abstract submission deadline: 10 December 2014
  • First abstract selection: 1 December 2014 – 10 January 2015
  • Confirmation of abstract acceptance / rejection: by the end of January 2015
  • End of early bird registration: 28 February 2015
  • End of registration: 15 March 2015

Additional information

Authors are invited to submit their abstract online. Abstracts should not exceed 1750 characters (including spaces, approximately 250 words). ISSA policy limits the number of papers an individual author can present: each participant can present one paper as the lead author. His or her name can appear on up to two additional papers as second or additional author, but not as presenter. Authors should make themselves available for the duration of the congress. ISSA encourages all presenters to prepare a power point presentation in order to facilitate comprehension since the ISSA Congress attracts an international audience.

Abstract submission is free of charge.

Registration fee must be paid by the 28 February 2015 at the latest to secure the presentation during the congress and the publication in the book of abstracts.
