Date: Wednesday 4 November 2015 at 12:00 PM
By 2050, roughly 70 per cent of the world’s population is expected to live in urban areas. Between 2010 and 2050, there may be as many as three billion new urban dwellers. The majority of extreme poverty is concentrated in urban spaces, and national and city governments alike are struggling to accommodate the rising population in these areas (UN-Habitat).
This presentation will draw on insights from fieldwork conducted with a girls’ SDP project in Delhi to reflect on the gendered nature of urbanisation and its impact on M&E within SDP projects. In so doing, it considers the ways in which to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which highlight the need for increased attention to gender equality (SDG #5) and the aim to make cities inclusive and safe for all (SDG # 11).
